Our Wedding

James and Amanda met (and fell in loveeee) at Skull Creek Marina on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. After working together for a few months, we met up at Wild Wing Cafe after work one day and haven't left each others' side since. We worked as a team running the marina, until one day a 112-foot yacht pulled in for fuel and offered us both a job. We took the job and moved from South Carolina to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We now work together to run the yacht for the owners and have traveled to the Bahamas, Chesapeake Bay, and Maine! We are exited to see where God leads us throughout our journey together. We know wherever we may go, we will always have each other right by our side.

Meet the McDonalds

Amanda

Amanda graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and moved to South Carolina to start working at Mermaid of Hilton Head in the summer of 2022. In pursuing her career in the Maritime Industry, she started working at Safe Harbor Skull Creek in the summer of 2023 which is where she met James!

James

James graduated from the University of South Carolina in the Fall of 2021. After working at Broad Creek Marina, as a dockhand, every summer since his junior year of high school, James wanted to pursue a career in the Maritime Industry. James became the Assitant Dockmaster of Safe Harbor Skull Creek in the Fall of 2021. Then James got an opportunity to work on a 130-foot yacht named Beach Girl in February of 2023. James did not enjoy that opportunity, and returned to Safe Harbor Skull Creek, but this time as the Dockmaster in April of 2023. He returned just in time to meet Amanda who started in July!

Where am I sleeping?

Hopefully not at the ceremony! We have a block of Hotel Rooms at the Quality Inn and Suites. Ask to have a room through the McDonald-Upchurch Wedding block.

There is a TON to do in Georgetown! The Annual Wooden Boat Show will be the same weekend. Embrace your nautical side and watch boats be made, boat races, and learn how to tie different knots!

There is also a ton of local shops, restaurants, and ice cream parlors right down town and enjoy grabbing a snack or a treat and walking along the water at the Harborwalk!

Georgetown is only 30 minutes away from Pawley's Island! It is also an hour away from Myrtle Beach and Charleston! We encourage you to explore South Carolina while you are in town and make a vacation out of it!
